First, there was the dance floor. From their very first gig in September 2024, opening a jam session, it convinced them to keep going and turn a one-off into a project. Neno erases the borders between jazz and electronic music so that musical languages flow both ways and audiences mix. The augmented quartet (keys, trombone, bass, drums + effects) has slipped into an emerging scene of jazz bands turning to computer-free electronic music, in the vein of their contemporaries Photon or Jeff Mills’s Detroit techno. Still, a few pedals, knobs and sensors are lying around, opening up new territory. A delay, some reverb, a loop, a pad… Behind this organic, shifting energy, Neno reminds us that a party is better together – even on stage.
