Felsenmeer (“sea of rocks” in German) crafts inventive new music from the meeting of clarinet and bass clarinet (Joséphine Besançon), electric guitar (Charles Paillet), double bass (Fanny Bouteiller) and drums (Matheo Ciesla). The quartet draws its first inspiration from jumbled boulder fields, conjuring a mineral, airborne world. Rugged expanses, wind-carved crevices, dizzying landscapes. The group delights in exploring the gaps between acoustic and electric, from chamber music to rockier paths. Felsenmeer embraces shifts in terrain and, in the meeting of opposites, opens up a space for poetry.
