The Adèle Viret Quartet, laureate of Jazz Migration #9, stood out by winning the prestigious Ensemble of the Year Award at the Euroradio Jazz Competition held at Jazz in Marciac on July 22nd. This international competition honors the best emerging talents from the European jazz scene. The award, given by a network of public radio stations across Europe, is a recognition of the musical excellence and creativity of the competing artists.

The Euroradio Jazz Competition, organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), is one of the most renowned platforms in the jazz world. Every year, ensembles made up of musicians under the age of 30 from various countries are selected by public radios within the EBU to perform in front of a jury of experts, composed of critics and musicians. This year’s jury included Thomas Loewner (Deutschlandradio), Roch Sicinski (Polskie Radio), Pilar Subirà(Catalunya Música), Jean-Marie Durand (Jazz in Marciac), and Jowee Omicil (saxophonist). The Ensemble of the Year Award highlights the most innovative projects, offering the winners international exposure and opportunities to perform at prestigious festivals.

Led by cellist Adèle Viret, the quartet distinguished itself with music that skillfully blends jazz improvisation and poetic compositions. Their contemporary approach to jazz, while still rooted in tradition, has positioned them as rising stars on the European jazz scene. Additionally, Wajdi Riahi, the quartet’s pianist, won the Best Soloist of the Year Award.

This competition was recorded by France Musique and broadcast across several European countries. You can listen to the recording below, along with Adèle Viret’s interview on France Musique’s morning show from August 16th.
